Hannah’s Washing

My sister and I went to visit my daughter Natalie, who lives in London. We had spent the day at the Columbia Road Flower Market and while relaxing at Natalie’s flat I noted some interesting building roof tops through the windows. These rooftops with their extraordinary chimneys are all over London and I grabbed my sketchbook with he intention of drawing the roof tops and framing the view with the actual window frame to put it all in perspective. But while studying the scene I realized that the washing rack with its content (my daughter’s roommate’s washing) was interesting enough to include in the sketch, and as things turn out the washing became the focus in the end.
